A traditional heirloom, this gourmet asparagus variety is highly esteemed in Europe for its delicious stems with rose-colored buds that can be blanched white.

Planting Instructions:
Sow seeds indoors in early spring or in a nursery bed after last frost. Soak seeds for a few hours and plant 1/2 inch deep. Seedlings can be grown close together, spaced 3 to 6-inches apart. Transplant indoor-grown seedlings autumn; field-grown seedlings the following spring. Asparagus needs 3 to 4-feet spacing, rich organic soil and ample moisture to thrive.

Mulch when planting but not too much; mulch heavily the second year. A few spears may be harvested the third year if plants are vigorous and more in subsequent years. Stop harvesting for the season when spears become thin and spindly.
